The list of Fortnite features continues to evolve with the release of sleep mode. You might have heard about a similar feature on video streaming platforms like Netflix and YouTube where the content automatically pauses when inactivity is detected.
However, many players wonder what sleep mode in Fortnite does and most importantly, how to use it.
Fortnite sleep mode feature explained
Sleep mode was introduced in Fortnite as part of the v31.30 update to conserve energy and hardware resources. It’s no secret that Fortnite is a GPU-intensive game and your system’s graphic card requires electricity to deliver performance.
However, players often leave their system with Fortnite running in the background which ultimately wastes their system’s resources and increases their electricity consumption.
Now, when the sleep mode is activated once you have gone AFK, Fortnite will consume minimal power and a popup will appear on the screen stating “Fortnite is in sleep mode.” At this point, the voice chat feature will be temporarily disabled and your character will be shown as “Away” to other party members.
You can easily bring Fortnite back to normal by pressing any key on your keyboard or controller to bring it out of sleep mode.
How to use sleep mode in Fortnite
There are two ways to use sleep mode in Fortnite. First of all, you can manually activate it by pressing the Escape button on your keyboard and selecting the sleep mode option.
Alternatively, head to the Settings >> Game tab >> Energy Saving. In this section, you can set the timer after which you want the sleep mode to activate. Here’s the list of options you’ll find:
- Never
- 5 Minutes
- 10 Minutes
- 15 Minutes
- 30 Minutes
- 60 Minutes
If set to “Never,” players can only activate Sleep Mode manually. If a timer is set, you will receive a 30-second countdown warning before Sleep Mode activates which allows you to return to the game if you wish.
