Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) raised a record-breaking US$3.13 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation over its week-long runtime, becoming the second GDQ event to raise over US$3 million for charity.

The week-long video game speedrun marathon raised a total of US$3,155,454.56 from 54,175 donors, both record-bests for any GDQ event. Donors donated an average of US$58.25 during the event, but one particularly generous donor pitched in a whopping US$356,306.

AGDQ’s speedrunners completed a total of 134 games — such as Terraria, Hotline Miami, Metal Gear Solid 3, and the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, among others — as quickly as they could over the course of the event.

The event’s Twitch viewership peaked at more than 236,000 concurrent viewers. A live audience of more than 2,750 people were also present at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Orlando, Florida over the course of the week-long marathon.

In last year’s Summer Games Done Quick, the event was able to raise US$3 million for the first time for the benefit of Doctors Without Borders.

It’s quite the accomplishment for GDQ, which held its first event back in January 2010 that raised just over US$10,000. Since then, GDQ has hosted 25 other events and raised a total of over US$25.6 million for charity.

With the success of this year’s event, GDQ organizers have announced that AGDQ 2021 has already been set for the week of Jan. 3-10, 2021. The next GDQ event will be Summer Games Done Quick 2020, set on the week of June 21-28 in Bloomington, Minnesota.
