Another ban wave has reportedly struck out against cheaters in Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 games.
Roughly 14,000 cheaters were banned across both titles over a 24-hour period on July 28, according to CODUpdates on Twitter.

A long-time plague of Call of Duty and online gaming in general, cheaters are players who use third-party software to give themselves often extreme advantages over others. This includes auto-aim, lowered recoil, or the ability to see through walls most often.
Back in 2021, Activision Blizzard revealed their new RICOCHET anti-cheat system in order to take the fight to the cheaters. There’s no doubt it has seen some success, but it’s a constant war. Cheat makers continue to find holes in the systems and create new ways to abuse the game.
At least another 14,000 are out of commission for the time being with the latest ban wave, however. Some will undoubtedly manage to find their way back in, but some may be gone for good or have at least learned their lesson.
It’s speculated that this wave of cheaters banned could be related to the court case which saw Activision be owed $3 million in damages from EngineOwning, a cheat maker. The thought is that the accounts banned are directly linked to EngineOwning and InterWebz as those users can no longer log in.
With Season 5 of Modern Warfare 2 coming in just a few days and Modern Warfare 3 on the horizon, it seems Activision is ready to crack down on cheats, and we’re sure this won’t be the last.
