Along with the upcoming release of the Command & Conquer Remaster Collection, Electronic Arts is also planning to release the source code for two of the remastered games, Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn, giving players the ability to create mods that go beyond the usual customization options.

“Along with the inclusion of a new Map Editor, these open-source DLLs should assist users to design maps, create custom units, replace art, alter gameplay logic, and edit data,” said producer Jim Vessella.

For example, Vessella talked about how his team and the community council created a brand new unit called a “Nuke Tank” that essentially came from parts and weapons of different vehicles.

While many fans were eager for LAN play on release, Vessella was transparent and said that it was a challenge to finish the feature due to the COVID-19 situation, but his team “will continue to keep it on our priority list going forward.”

Players will still be able to share maps and mods online through their respective game clients. Steam users can utilize the Steam Workshop to easily upload and download various add-ons while Origin players can use the in-game download process for maps but will have to manually install mods in their respective folders.

The Command & Conquer Remastered Collection will be available on June 5.
