What is Dragon Age The Veilguard?
Dragon Age The Veilguard is a single-player fantasy RPG on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Veilguard builds upon the series’ legacy of rich storytelling, strategic combat, unforgettable companions, and impactful choices.
In this next chapter, you become Rook, the newest hero of Thedas. As a member of the elite Veilguard, you’ll fight alongside extraordinary companions, each with their own stories, motivations, and unique skills to develop.
The fate of the world hangs in the balance, and it’s up to you to rise above your circumstances, forge powerful bonds with your companions, and become the leader Thedas needs.
Your legend starts with the Character Creator. Here, you’ll define Rook’s path by choosing from Dragon Age The Veilguard classes — the foundation of their combat style and abilities.
All Dragon Age The Veilguard classes and specializations
There are three Dragon Age The Veilguard classes: Warrior, Mage, and Rogue. Each class allows you to specialize your character with unique abilities further.
In the official gameplay reveal from Xbox Games Showcase 2024, we see Rook, a Human Rogue who belongs to the Shadow Dragons, a rebel faction comprised of mages.

Warrior | The frontline fighters, soaking up damage and controlling enemy positions. They excel at using heavy armor and weapons like swords, axes, and shields. Think of them as the tanks of the group. |
Mage | Masters of magic, wielding powerful spells for offensive and defensive purposes. They can unleash devastating attacks, buff allies, and control the battlefield with crowd control abilities. They are typically squishy (vulnerable to physical damage) but pack a magical punch. |
Rogue | Specialists in stealth, agility, and dealing precise damage. They excel at ranged combat with bows or throwing weapons, close-quarters surprise attacks, and maneuvering around enemies. Think of them as the damage dealers who can also handle some scouting and disabling traps. |
As you progress through the game, specializations will eventually become available to unlock. Each class has its own set of specializations so consider this before locking in your choice.
Warrior specializations
- Champion – Wielding a Sword and Shield, the Champion both attacks foes and shields allies whilst unleashing fiery abilities.
- Slayer – Charges into battle with a Two-Handed Weapon, shattering enemy defenses with powerful physical attacks.
- Reaper – Can switch between Two-Handed weapons and Sword and Shield, Reapers inflict Necrotic damage to drain their enemy’s life to sustain themselves.
Mage specializations
- Evoker – Freezes enemies with Cold damage, excels in crowd control.
- Death Caller – Dark mages from the Necropolis who drain enemy life with Necrotic Damage.
- Spellblade – Infuses melee attacks with lightning, shocking and weakening foes.
Rogue specializations
- Saboteur – Weakens and controls the battlefield with explosives, turrets, and powerful physical attacks.
- Veil Ranger – A master of ranged combat, imbues arrows with magic and electricity to decimate groups of enemies.
- Duelist – A nimble fighter who dodges and parries attacks, then counters with swift strikes and wide-ranging Necrotic damage.
