Despite releasing in 2018, online social game, Among Us, has only recently experienced a surge in players when some popular streamers around the world showcased some of their cunning plays.
While developer Innersloth announced that the game was in talks for a sequel in August, an official blog post has confirmed that Among Us 2 has been canceled.
“The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content,” stated Innersloth. “However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level. We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1.”

With the cancellation, Innersloth did reveal some interesting prospects coming to its players. First off, the team is still working on fixing server issues to provide a more stable playing experience for everyone. With only three servers as of now, Innersloth may try to add more region-specific servers to handle a more widespread playerbase.
While the game is still pretty bare-bones in terms of its user interface and accessibility, Innersloth is adding colorblind support to the game. With color-based characters and color-dependent tasks like “Fix Wiring”, this opens up the opportunity for more distinct color choices to help tell players apart.
Another great add-on that Innersloth teased was a Friends/Account system. While it may be fun playing with your IRL friends on a private server, it’s also essential to be able to add friendly players that you meet in public lobbies.
Last, but not least, Innersloth hinted at an upcoming stage to give players a change of scenery from the current three stages. Following up Polus which was released in November 2019, the new stage will be inspired by Henry Stickmin, a classic flash game series made also by Innersloth.
While those updates may already be a handful, the devs have already said they still have more plans on the horizon, but they’ll be taking time to prioritize and organize it in a proper manner.
