The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro is, in all sense of the word, super solid

The Razer Wolverine V3 Pro is a esports wireless controller officially licensed by Xbox that also seamlessly plugs and plays into your PC.

The controller was developed using feedback from FPS esports pro Eric “Snip3down” Wron, who play-tested the product extensively. A two-time X Games Medalist and 24-time Halo Champion, Snip3down is hugely respected figure in the gaming community and Razer’s first controller esports athlete.

The reason why Razer pursued this project is because they wanted to reinvent their current practices and make a significant impact on the industry, they shared in a media briefing. One of the ways identified is the controller — doing what they did with mice, they wanted to incorporate speed and precision that ultimately changes the way gamers play.

In an exclusive interview with ONE Esports in June 2024, Jeff Chau, Razer’s Global Esports Director, spoke about the company’s renewed commitment to excellence. One of the key ways he highlighted is collaboration through feedback from sponsored esports athletes, which now forms the backbone of the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro.

According to Razer, you should expect the Wolverine V3 Pro to stand out from other controllers for its advanced customization options, lightning-fast inputs, and exceptional ergonomics.

It includes four mouse click back paddles, two claw grip bumpers, Razer Pro HyperTriggers, Hall Effect precision thumbsticks, and Razer HyperSpeed Wireless connectivity.

Speed, innovation, and performance. These are the three pillars Razer kept in mind while designing the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, they shared during the media briefing.

When it comes to speed, Razer didn’t just consider how a button activates, but also its placement and the overall connection players experience, just like how they design their mice. Speed is a fundamental aspect, and every individual element plays a role in enhancing it.

The new Hall Effect precision thumbsticks offer superior accuracy and smoother movement than traditional models. With anti-friction rings and professional-grade materials, they promise long-lasting durability.

I’m a heavy Razer user for years — my mouse, keyboard, and headset haven’t changed and I use them for both work and play daily, including climbing rank. Adding a new Razer product to my setup in the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro, I would agree that Razer delivered on the three pillars. In fact, it feels a tier above the rest in terms of materials and performance.

Just like other peripherals, I could customize my desired sensitivity and other settings via the Razer Controller App to achieve precise, personalized control. It’s easy to remap buttons to suit your playing style and add customizable lighting effect to your setup.

The triggers have a short travel distance for faster inputs, and you can feel the tactile feedback and crisp response times in every button press.

You know how non-esports controllers have loose buttons that move around, giving you an airy touch? You’ll get none of that here. All of the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro’s buttons are easy to press, yet sturdy and firm. Everything is held together by top-tier, quality material that’s strong and durable. Razer wanted to make something that lasts, and it shows in all aspects.

Because the controller is, in all sense of the word, super solid, the biggest downside for me is its weight. I held it for hours going through all types of games in my Steam library every night for a week. Each night, the muscles in my hands felt a bit tired.

At 304g, it is about 70g heavier compared to the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4G Controller (236g), which I’ve been using all this while, I didn’t think 70g would make that much of a difference, but it does if you’re in for a long gaming session. What I do now is use the 8BitDo for casual games and maximize the Razer Wolverine V3 Pro’s capabilities when playing competitive titles like Apex Legends.

I would also add that its size is most suited for players with average to large hand sizes. I have small hands, so while it’s still very ergonomic, it’s perhaps a little too big for absolute comfort.
