Fortnite’s much awaited first person mode is finally right around the corner as Epic Games has officially announced a release date for it.

For those who don’t know, the first person mode was officially teased by Epic Games during their State of Unreal presentation in March 2024.

However, an exact release date was not revealed at that time. Thankfully, we finally have a release window, so here’s when first person mode is coming out in Fortnite.

According to the official announcement, the First Person Camera Mode device is entering Beta on December 11, 2024. However, it’s worth mentioning that it will be limited to the Creative island which means only custom map creators will be able to use this feature at launch.

Unfortunately, as clarified earlier during the State of Unreal presentation in March 2024, it would not be part of the main Battle Royale mode at launch. As things progress and the developers experiment with this new feature, chances are it will eventually make its way to Zero build and build modes.

To implement this feature in their islands, the publishers can head to the Fortnite’s Creator portal and can find the first person mode option under Fortnite > Devices > Experiment section.

However, there are a few things that the creator should keep in mind before adding this new feature:

  • In the Beta release, most ranged weapons and the Ballistic Shield can be used in first-person, though not all have custom reload animations.
  • Dual-wielding automatically switches the view to third-person, as do actions like swimming, gliding, and skydiving.
  • Certain actions may hide the player’s hands or weapon, and shadows and rendering issues, such as clipping, may occur.

Epic Games has specifically noted in their blog that they do not guarantee backward compatibility for assets created at the experimental stage.
