Frost Death Knight playstyle explained
Unlike other classes with straightforward resource generators and spenders, Death Knights have two interdependent resources: Runes and Runic Power.
This means that playing a Death Knight isn’t as simple as generating resources with abilities and then spending them on powerful ones. Instead, you need to be familiar with the class’s abilities and effectively manage procs and cooldown burst windows.
For example, Pillar of Frost is a one-minute cooldown skill that increases your Strength by 30% for 12 seconds. To maximize your damage output during this window, you should save enough resources to empower your abilities and use as many as possible within the 12-second duration.
Your top priority should be managing the Killing Machine and Rime talents. Killing Machine makes your next Obliterate deal Frost damage and guarantees a critical hit, while Rime gives you a chance to make your next Howling Blast free and deal 225% increased damage.
You’ll want to use Obliterate and Howling Blast whenever these talents proc to maximize your damage.
Hero Talents explained
We currently recommend the Deathbringer build over the Rider of the Apocalypse Hero Talents.
Deathbringer offers better overall damage throughput. This is largely due to Reaper’s Mark, a powerful ability that increases in damage as it stacks, up to 40 stacks. When a marked target dies, the mark chains to another target.
Additionally, the Exterminate talent allows Reaper’s Mark to chain to other targets, making your next Obliterate free and summoning two scythes to fight alongside you. These scythes have a chance to spread Reaper’s Mark to other enemies, enhancing your multitarget damage.
Overall, Reaper’s Mark excels in both single-target and multitarget situations.
While Rider of the Apocalypse is an exciting build, featuring randomly summoned Horsemen to fight alongside you and the ability to summon and ride an undead Charger during combat, it falls behind in overall damage output despite its superior burst potential.
