The rebreather is one of the most useful pieces of equipment you can get in Sons of the Forest. As such, we explain how to get the rebreather in Sons of the Forest in this guide.
It’s something you need to get your hands on as quickly as possible since it allows you to traverse underwater areas in the game with ease. Unfortunately, since the Sons of the Forest rebreather is not something you can get by following the golden path, it’s quite easy to miss.

Where to find the rebreather in Sons of the Forest
You can find the rebreather in Sons of the Forest inside a cave on the north side of the map. The cave’s entrance opens towards the ocean, as you can see in the screenshot above, and shouldn’t be too hard to spot.
Once you are in the cave, keep heading down until you find a tunnel leading downwards to a water pool with a couple of sharks. Don’t worry. You won’t have to fight them to get the rebreather, though just to be prepared, equip the axe or any other lethal weapon you may have while exploring this part of the cave.
You can find the rebreather on the opposite side of the pool where the light is glowing. Carefully make your way to that side to grab the rebreather and other resources. You can also find several air tanks in here, which will increase the capacity of the rebreather.
Once you have the Sons of the Forest rebreather, head forward, and you will notice there’s no path ahead. It’s because the path leading outside the cave is underwater. Now would be a great time to get a feel of that rebreather; you will get to use it a lot from now on.
Once you’re ready to go, equip the rebreather from your inventory and head underwater to find a path leading outside the cave.
As mentioned previously, the rebreather is an incredibly useful piece of equipment that lets you to breathe underwater. Most bunkers (especially the ones part of the main quest) have underwater sect, which you can’t cross without a rebreather, so make sure to get it as soon as possible.
