Slicing or hacking terminals can be a bit overwhelming at first, and if you’re struggling to grasp how it works, you are in the right place. This ONE Esports guide explains how to hack terminals in Star Wars Outlaws.
In Star Wars Outlaws, you will spend plenty of time sneaking into enemy territory, and one of the obstacles you will encounter consistently is locked doors. Some doors can be opened relatively easily by lockpicking, while others are more tedious and require you to hack nearby terminals to gain access.

Hacking in Star Wars is all about luck. All you have to do is guess and try to enter the correct combination of glyphs until your attempts run out. Every time you fill a column, the glyphs’ color will change.
Blue glyphs are in the correct position and require no change. Yellow glyphs are part of the combination but have different positions. Lastly, the cross means the glyphs are not part of the combination.
Thankfully, the incorrect and the correct glyphs you select get removed in the next step, so you have fewer glyphs available to choose from in the next attempt.
Some mid-to-late game devices feature four or five columns, which makes choosing the right combinations even more difficult. To hack these advanced terminal-less devices, you will need a Slicing Kit, which you can get by completing the Slicer quest and unlocking the Slicer Expert Aila Bren.
Occasionally, you will find devices on which some glyphs are connected with blue lines. There can be one valid glyph per group, though all groups are not used. We recommend selecting glyphs from one or two such groups in the first attempt instead of one glyph from each, as it will filter out groups quickly.
If it still seems a bit complex, don’t worry. There are ways to make hacking easy in Star Wars Outlaws. Once you have the Slicing Kit and unlocked Aila’s Slice Kit Upgrade, you will gain access to Slicing subroutines which are basically cheats that increase your chance of inserting correct glyph combinations.
Memory Expansion can give you more attempts if you fail to enter the correct combinations in the existing attempts. Syntax Sorting can auto-place all the yellow glyphs in the correct positions. Lastly, Error Filtering can remove some of the unused and incorrect glyphs from the glyph pool.
These Slicing subroutines can make hacking significantly easy in Star Wars Outlaws, though if you still find yourself struggling with them, you can go to the gameplay setting and increase Slicing attempts or replace glyph symbols with numbers.
