How the Mew EX & Mewtwo EX deck works and how to beat it
The Mew EX & Mewtwo EX deck is a pure Psychic-type deck, an enhanced version of the classic Mewtwo & Gardevoir pairing. Gardevoir’s ability to supply extra Psychic Energy helps to accelerate the deployment of either Mewtwo or Mew, enabling them to unleash their powerful attacks sooner.
Mewtwo EX, renowned for its devastating damage output, can quickly overwhelm opponents. Meanwhile, Mew EX possesses the unique ability to mimic enemy moves, turning the opponent’s strategies against them.
To defeat this powerful Psychic deck, here are some useful tips:
- Utilize Dark-type Pokemon to combat the many Psychic-types in this solo challenge.
- This deck’s early game is extremely weak. Exploit this weakness by prioritizing early damage or even securing early knockouts.
- Eliminating Gardevoir early on can significantly reduce Mewtwo and Mew’s offensive capabilities.
- Mew’s Genome Hacking doesn’t work with certain Pokemon moves.
You will have to neutralize the potent duo of Mewtwo and Gardevoir and also contend with the disruptive tactics of Mew and Jynx, who excel at stalling in the active spot.
Focus on taking out Gardevoir or Mewtwo first, they’re the main attacking duo for this deck. If possible, you may want to ignore Jynx and Mew as they are there to protect the main attackers. Having Sabrina on hand to force out swaps will be important when dealing with this deck.
Arbok is a fantastic Dark-type to use against this deck as it hits hard and can prevent Pokemon from retreating, allowing you to finish them off the following turn.
In many cases, Mew is in fact a bit of a bait card in this deck and can be ignored unless there is a good move to steal with Genome Hacking. It can only reliably dish out 20 damage with its first attack, and Genome Hacking will only do as much damage as the move it copies.
Here are a few key things you need to know to understand how Genome Hacking works:
- Copied moves will always dish out Psychic-type damage.
- If Genome Hacking copies a move that typically discards Energy, it will only discard Energy if the specified type of Energy is available. Otherwise, the attack is copied for free.
- The copied move must still meet the move’s requirement otherwise it may not work. For example, copying Pikachu EX’s Circle Circuit attack still requires Mew to have Electric-type Pokemon on its bench otherwise the attack does nothing.
