How the Venusaur EX & Serperior deck works and how to beat it
This mono Grass-type deck, while powerful, is typically slow due to its high energy costs. However, Serperior’s unique ability to double equipped Grass Energy for attacks significantly boosts the deck’s speed and efficiency.
The Jungle Totem Ability doubles all Grass Energy attached to any Grass-type Pokemon. This passive effect remains active regardless of whether Serperior is in the Active slot or on the bench.
With that in mind, here are several tips to beat this deck:
- Build a Fire-type deck to exploit the type advantage against all the Grass-type Pokemon in this solo challenge.
- Target and knock out Snivy or Servine early before they can fully evolve, so that neither Venusaur nor Dhelmise can benefit from its ability.
- Take advantage of this deck’s weakness in the first few turns and knock Pokemon out before they can attack. Low energy cost Fire-type Pokemon such as Rapidash, Ninetales, Magmar, and Salazzle are great for this!
Consider using the Sabrina Supporter card to target and knock out benched Pokemon, especially Serperior, that might be hiding on your opponent’s bench.
Unless you own Moltress EX to provide additional Fire Energy, avoid using high energy Fire-type Pokemon cards such as Arcanine EX, Charizard EX, and Flareon. In many cases, these Pokemon will take far too long to power up against this expert challenge deck.
