The Scadutree Avatar is a Legend boss in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. It’s one of the trickier bosses to defeat and it can deal significant damage to you in unexpected moments.
In this comprehensive ONE Esports guide, we explain how to defeat Scadutree Avatar, along with details about its location, best build, weaknesses, and rewards for beating it.
Scadutree Avatar location in Elden Ring
The Scadutree Avatar is located at the Scadutree Base, which you can get access to after draining the water at the back of Shadow Keep.
It is located northeast of Shadow Keep, and you can reach this location through the Tree-Worship Passage.
Best build for Scadutree Avatar and Scadutree Avatar weaknesses
The Scadutree Avatar does some serious bleed damage with its roots and thorns, so you’ll need to have high poise to not get staggered.
Moreover, make sure you have a few Stanching Boluses to remove bleed damage. For physical damage, use Golden Vow and Flame, Grant Me Strength for an increase in physical attacks.
The Scadutree Avatar is weak to fire and magic damage so using weapons and overall build that inflict this tyype of damage is immensely useful.
In terms of weapons, the Blasphemous Blade at +10 is recommended because it’s Taker’s Flames skill is highly effective against this boss. In addition to that, the Flame, Grant Me Strength boosts its damage.
To boost your skill damage even more, use the Shard of Alexander as one of your Talismans. Additionally, the Lusat’s Glintstone Staff at +10 with the Night Comet, Rock Sling, and Meteorite of Astel are perfect for fighting this boss.
To make things relatively easier, use your Mimic Tear Spirit Ashes to help you out. Although, it’s pretty tricky to use in this fight fully, as the boss moves around a lot and it takes time to catch up to it.
When you also move away to heal, the Mimic Tear follows you instead of attacking the boss. But, if you’re close to the boss, it deals impressive damage.
How to beat the Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Scadutree Avatar first phase
When you enter the arena, the Scadutree Avatar throws thorny roots at you three times. Dodge-roll away from these.
Afterwards, it generally uses its roots to swing them right at you. The root swings are varied, as sometimes it does them twice and sometimes thrice. It also does stomps with the roots. The strategy here is to dodge-roll backwards.
There’s a small window after these, allowing you to launch your offense. You can do a few heavy strikes to take huge chunks of its health. Its weak point is its head so when it brings its head near, do some heavy attacks on it.
It also does a head stomp which takes the majority of your health. Fortunately, it’s quite predictable as it will lift its head before it starts the attack.
There’s a fair window of opportunity to land some hits on it after the head stomp. Throughout the first phase, it will use its roots and thorns to mainly attack you along with the occasional head stomp.
Scadutree Avatar second phase
After you defeat it the first time, it’ll spawn a second time with full health. It doesn’t take a lot to drain its health but its moveset is changed which can drain yours.
Along with the attacks in the previous phase, it will charge towards you two or three times quickly, so you have to dodge sideways at the right moment. The Scadutree Avatar also spawns beams of light towards you so you need to dodge-roll away from these when they get close.
If you’re using a ranged weapon, it’s head is open to attacks more frequently during this phase, allowing you to get some quick shots.
It also does its root swings and stomps more frequently, so the attack windows are the same from the first phase. The openings here are relatively short so you will have to be quick to react.
If you’re a melee user, stay close to it and do some heavy attacks, and if you’re using magic you can attack it with spells from close distance as well.
Scadutree Avatar third phase
It will spawn again after you defeat it the second time, but with 75% health. The movesets are unchanged from the first and second phases, however, it moves quickly this time.
A noticeable move here is a charged light explosion which can one-shot you. The best way to avoid the light beams is to get far away and dodge-roll.
The strategy is the same in this phase: look for openings after it attacks and try to go for its head.
Scadutree Avatar rewards and unlocks
Defeating the Scadutree Avatar rewards you with Remembrance of the Shadow Sunflower, which will give you access to Shadow of Sunflower weapon or Land of Shadow Incantation.
It also grants you 260,000 Runes and Miquella’s Great Rune.
