The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) announced GeoGuessr’s inclusion in the EWC Festival tournament program, expanding its competitive offerings.

This new series of competitions will run concurrently with the main Esports World Cup event.

During the third week of the Esports World Cup Festival 2025, from July 21 to 27, 2025 in Riyadh, a Last Chance Wildcard Tournament for the title will be held.

Scheduled during the third week of the festival, this high-stakes competition offers a USD$20,000 prize pool and, crucially, the final two coveted slots for the World Championship, held in Copenhagen from August 29 to 30, 2025.

Sixteen of the world’s top-ranked players will receive invitations to battle for these last opportunities to compete on the global stage.

“We’re excited to welcome GeoGuessr to the Esports World Cup 2025 as part of our EWC Festival tournament program,” said Fabian Scheuermann, Chief Games Officer, Esports World Cup Foundation.

“Few games have captured the imagination of players around the world quite like it – its blend of exploration, puzzle solving, and fast-paced competition has turned it into a global phenomenon,” he added.

GeoGuessr is renowned for turning online exploration into a thrilling competitive game. Since its launch in 2013, this geography-based guessing game experienced a surge in worldwide popularity in 2020, mirroring the trajectory of Chess, another game making its debut at EWC 2025.

The title has drawn millions of players to its browser-based and Steam platforms, fostering connections through the virtual exploration of diverse countries, continents, and cultures, all powered by the familiar Google Street View, making world exploration accessible to everyone.

Since the 2023 debut of the official GeoGuessr World Championship, the game has solidified its status as a professional esport title, attracting a global audience of elite players and creators across competitive circuits and livestream platforms.
