There are a lot of Monster Hunter fans around it seems.
The latest expansion to Capcom’s best-selling game Monster Hunter: World (MHW) has already been out on the market for about a week now, and it has sold a whopping 250,000 physical copies in Japan alone.
A large part of this number — around 200,000 — were people who had purchased the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition, which includes the original MHW game plus the Iceborne expansion.
On the other hand, about 50,000 existing MH players availed of the digital copy of the Iceborne alone, according to a report by Japanese magazine Famitsu.
Given that the latest expansion of the game is as big as the original games, fans who are buying it will be able to spend plenty of time hunting. The new area, Hoarfrost Reach, is home to tons of new monsters not seen before, as well as some interesting variations on old favorites, including a lightning-buffed Anjanath called “Fulgar Anjanath” and a faster, more deadly version of Odogaron that belches black smoke called “Ebony Odogaron”.
Iceborne also adds some nwe quality-of-life features, such as difficulty scaling if a player in your party disconnects, and a grey outline of your character that appears if your line-of-sight is obstructed by the monster you’re fighting
