The newest expansion for Magic: The Gathering (MTG) marks a return to the beloved plane of Tarkir, and with it, new Tarkir Dragonstorm mechanics.
Tarkir is now engulfed in immense and terrifying dragonstorms, unleashing unprecedented numbers of wild dragons across the landscape.
Powerful new Spirit Dragons have emerged from these storms, displacing the former dragonlords and galvanizing the five clans into a fierce struggle for control of the land.

Amidst this draconic maelstrom, Narset and Elspeth strive to halt the spreading dragonstorms, while Sarkhan Vol stands as an obstacle in their path. Simultaneously, Jace pursues an enigmatic goal deep within the Meditation Realm, a quest that could potentially endanger the entire multiverse.
Tarkir Dragonstorm release date
Tarkir Dragonstorm is scheduled for its tabletop release on April 11, 2025 (Friday).
Tarkir Dragonstorm mechanics
Enhance your decks with a powerful squadron of new Dragon cards and unleash aerial devastation using two innovative dragon-themed abilities.

- Dragonstorms are enchantments with powerful enters abilities that you return to your hand for recasting when you play a Dragon.
- Omen is a new card subtype that lets you choose whether to cast a small spell that then shuffles into your library, or a big Dragon.
The five distinct clans of Tarkir return, each bringing their own rich culture and engaging gameplay mechanics by utilizing a brand-new keyword unique to each faction:
TARKIR DRAGONSTORM CLAN KEYWORD | MECHANIC |
Endure | The Abzan (White, Black, Green) keyword focuses on counters. When playing creatures with Endure players may add N +1/+1 counters or create N/N Spirit tokens. |
Flurry | The Jeskai (Blue, Red, White) keyword allows for mini combo turns with multiple spells. Cards with Flurry trigger an additional effect when you cast your second spell each turn. |
Renew | The Sultai (Black, Blue, Green) keyword allows players to exile cards from their graveyard as a sorcery for fun and profit. To Renew, spend some mana and exile the card for a powerful result. |
Mobilize | The Mardu (Red, White, Black) keyword aims to boost a go-wide strategy for the turn. Creatures with Mobilize trigger when attacking and create more attackers with menace that are sacrificed at the beginning of the next end step. |
Harmonize | The Temur (Green, Blue, Red) keyword is all about big creatures reducing costs. You may cast a card with Harmonize from your graveyard for its Harmonize cost and may tap an untapped creature you control to pay its power in generic mana. |
Each clan’s distinctive three-color gameplay and their new abilities provide a wealth of fresh strategies to command as you battle for survival.
Select your clan and prepare for war with five new Commander decks, each showcasing a legendary clan leader of Tarkir alongside a powerful Spirit Dragon. These decks are ready to play immediately and include all the essentials for engaging in Magic’s widely popular multiplayer format.
