Why Tales of Graces f was chosen for an upgrade and why it’s not a remake
One of the key reasons why Tales of Graces f was chosen out of the many titles in the Tales series is because from a practical standpoint, its original graphic quality facilitates a remaster, allowing game developers to “quickly as well as accurately” port this series to the modern day gaming devices.
What’s more, Tales series is renowned for its character development, interactions, and combat. When considering options for remastering, Tales of Graces f stood out for these reasons.
The decision to remaster the game was also influenced by feedback from attendees at a 10th anniversary event in Japan, where participants expressed a strong desire for a remastered version. Audience interest had played a crucial role in the producers’ decision.
What newcomers to the series can expect from Tales of Graces f Remastered
Producer of Tales of Graces f Remastered, Mr Ishikawa highlighted that there are two features added that are specifically designed to help newcomers to the series enjoy the game.
The first feature allows players to download content from the original series, including geo-locked content that was once exclusive to Japan. The producers hope that this will help newcomers get acquainted with the game.
The second feature they added is a new guidance system. It provides players with clear indicators telling them where their next objective lies, outlining the specific steps they need to take to progress to the next stage.
What’s more, the Grade Shop in the original series — where players purchase bonuses to enhance their stats — was only available after the second chapter of the story, but in Tales of Graces f Remastered, it is now accessible from the very beginning, which would make things a little easier for all players, not just newcomers.
As a consequence, the producers had to rebalance certain aspects of the game. Players have the flexibility to toggle experience points on and off, choosing options like double or five times the amount. If five times feels excessive, they can revert to standard points. Additionally, there are certain settings that cannot be adjusted.
Overall, Mr Ishikawa neither encourages nor discourages the Grade Shop’s functionality — it’s entirely up to the player preference.
Tales of Graces f Remastered releases on January 16, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. It will launch on PC via Steam on January 17, 2025.
