You can install any third-party launcher on Steam OS, provided you use the right tools.

For this guide, we will use the Herioc Games Launcher. This tool allows you to sideload Epic Games, GOG, and Amazon Prime Games Launcher.

However, just installing won’t let you use it from the get-go. Here are the steps you should follow to make the open-source launcher work:

  1. Switch to Desktop mode once you start your Steam Deck. You can do it by pressing the Steam button and scroll down to find the power option. Click on the power menu and select “Switch to Desktop” from the sub-menu.
  2. Open the Discover app (blue-colored shopping bag) and search for Herioc Games Launcher on it. After finding the app, install it on your Steam Deck via the dedicated option. (Steam+X to open the keyboard)
  3. Click the Start menu on the bottom left and go to Games. Scroll until you find Heroic Games Launcher. Press L2 (right-click), and then click on the “Add to Steam” option.
  4. Now, launch the Herioc Games Launcher from the Games menu. This will open up the app.
  5. Next, navigate to the Log In option on the app. You’ll find an option called Epic Games Login. Click on it and enter your login credentials.

This would successfully authenticate Epic Games Launcher on your Steam Deck.

To start the app again, use the Steam Launcher to start Epic Games. You can find this in your library under the Non-Steam App tab.
