Path of Exile 2 has had a successful early access launch with most reviewers praising its dark atmosphere, challenging boss encounters, and stunning visuals. As of this writing, PoE 2 has surpassed 500,000 concurrent players on Steam.

However, PoE 2’s launch hasn’t been free of problems, with one of the most severe being the “failed to join any instance error.”

If you haven’t encountered the PoE 2’s failed to join any instances error, you may want to read this first before checking out possible fixes in the following paragraphs.

In PoE 2, instances are randomly generated maps, which you can create for yourself and your party every time you enter a new area. It’s like entering a procedurally generated environment in a roguelite game mode.

PoE 2 failed to join any instances error seem to mostly occur when someone tries to use the town portal to fast-travel to the Clearfell Encampment. However, some players have also reported experiencing it when logging in to their character.

Path of Exile 2 failed to join any instances error seems to be a server-side issue, probably due to network congestion from too many players trying to log in at the same time.

Right before its early access launch, PoE 2’s game director, Jonathan Rogers, had suggested that login queues and other network-related issues may occur as the team didn’t know how their backend services would handle this many players.

Given how it’s an issue from GGG’s side, it’s best to be patient and wait for a possible fix. The server problems should decrease as the studio deploys more patches and the launch hype subsides.

That said, some Reddit users have come up with potential solutions that seem to fix this issue.

Big question — Is Path of Exile 2 on Gamepass?

According to Reddit user Sea-Breadfruit6645, changing the display from full screen to windowed-full screen seems to fix it instantly, though you can only try it on a PC.

Another Reddit user, Xinterp, corroborated further and suggested changing the display on the login screen itself.

We have yet to try these fixes for ourselves since we haven’t experienced the “failed to join any instance error.” If you have, there’s no harm in trying, right?

We will update this article with more possible fixes and a potential update from GGG, so don’t forget to check back once in a while.
