From fourth to first, Rex Regum Qeon have qualified for the Pokémon UNITE World Championships 2023 in Yokohama, making them the first Indonesian team in history to represent the region.
RRQ is one of the most successful esports organizations in Indonesia, and their Pokémon UNITE team is no exception. The team recently won the Pokémon UNITE APAC West regional qualifier, which earned them a spot at the Pokémon UNITE World Championships 2023. This will be RRQ’s first time competing at the World Championships, and they are determined to make everyone proud.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for RRQ in the monthly qualifiers
The APAC West qualifiers were composed of many different teams from the region. With the likes of EVOS Esports, Team KRT, Team MYS and many more, RRQ’s journey to qualify for the World Championships was no easy task.
Though considered one of the favorites in the region, RRQ finished fourth in the April qualifier after dropping their series against No Lucario during their lower bracket run — one spot short of making it to the regional finals.
Still, fourth place allowed them not only to be able to participate in the remaining two monthly qualifiers but also, granted a slice of the prize pool of US$1,500.
That left them a month to prepare for the upcoming May qualifier.
Come the May qualifier, RRQ put on a show few would ever forget. Though knocked down to the lower bracket after the first round, the team fought tooth and nail to reach the grand finals. Their opponents were none other than Cakekalok, a team hailing from Thailand featuring some of the highest-rated players on the global leaderboard.
Ultimately, RRQ came out on top after forcing a 2-1 bracket reset, and then claiming the title of May champions with a 2-0 sweep. Officially locked in for the regional finals, the team was ready to tackle the challenge head on.

Everything was on the line for RRQ at the regional finals
It all came down to the regional finals. Placing top three was the main goal, but the first-place US$15,000 prize money and travel award were too good to pass up.
Motivated by the opportunity to play at the Pokémon UNITE World Championships, RRQ held nothing back and powered through the upper bracket till they reached the grand finals. As the first grand finalist, they secured their invitation to play at the Pokémon UNITE World Championships.
Their final opponent would be none other than Team MYS, arguably the strongest team in the APAC West region. Both teams played their best, but it was RRQ who came out on top, ending the series with a clean 2-0.
This crowned RRQ as the Champions of the Asia-Pacific West Region, winning a prize pool of US$15,000, the travel award, and qualification to the Pokémon UNITE World Championships.
