Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has been teasing fans with the upcoming new content for the past few months. After a long wait, Stardew Valley 1.6 update is finally out. Players on PC/Steam can now dive into the latest features and discover new content.

The Stardew Valley 1.6 update brings new festivals, a mastery system, a new farm type, the ability to have multiple pets and give them hats, and other quality of life updates. New items have also been added, such as chests, a dehydrator, a bait maker, a heavy furnace, a fish smoker, and various seeds and books.

If you want spoiler-free gameplay, you may want to go back to your farm. Without further ado, let’s dive into the Stardew Valley 1.6 update.



Stardew Valley 1.6 update new content and features

  • Mastery system, a new area that the player can access within Cindersap Forest which grants powerful perks and items.
  • Added a “Special Items & Powers” tab to replace the wallet. The wallet area now tracks a selection of progress markers.
  • 19 unique Books Of Power, which grant special perks.
  • Skill Books, which grant experience in a skill.
  • Book Of Stars, which grants experience in all skills.
  • Meadowlands Farm: A new farm type that has a chewy blue grass that animals love. You also start with a coop and two chickens.
  • Stardew Valley on PC can now host up to eight players for multiplayer
  • The world map now shows your actual position within the world in real-time (instead of showing you at a fixed point for each location). In multiplayer, you’ll see other players’ positions in real-time too.
  • Players can now place hats on cats and dogs

Stardew Valley 1.6: New Festivals and Events

  • The Desert Festival: a three-day event in spring which can be accessed after the bus is repaired.
  • Trout Derby and Squidfest: Mini Fishing Festival
  • new environmental “event” in summer

Stardew Valley 1.6: New Items

  • Big Chest: Almost double the size of a regular chest. Can be placed “onto” a regular chest to upgrade it.
  • Dehydrator: Turns fruit into dried fruit and mushrooms into dried mushrooms.
  • Mushroom Log: Produces mushrooms and interacts with nearby trees.
  • Bait Maker: Produces fish-specific baits.
  • Heavy Furnace: Processes more bars at a time, yielding bonus bars.
  • Fish Smoker: Produces smoked fish, doubling the value of the fish. You get one by default when starting a new Riverlands farm.
  • Mini-Forge: Acts as a Dwarvish Forge.
  • Statue Of Blessings: Grants a random blessing each day.
  • Statue Of The Dwarf King: Allows you to select one of two mining buffs for the day.
  • Tent Kits: Allow you to build a tent which can be slept in for one night.
  • Treasure Totems: Spawn a ring of digable spots.
  • Mystic Seeds: Grow a unique tree which can be tapped.
  • Mystic Syrup: A valuable tapper product.
  • Deluxe Bait: Gets fish biting faster than regular bait.
  • Challenge Bait: Allows for up to 3 fish to be caught at once, but loses 1 each time a fish leaves the bobber bar.
  • Deluxe Worm Bin: Upgrades the regular worm bin to produce deluxe bait.
  • Moss: A new resource type which grows on old trees.
  • Sonar Bobber: Shows the fish on your line before you catch it.
  • 7 Trinkets: Grant powers related to combat.
  • Stardrop Tea: Makes an excellent gift for anyone.
  • Butterfly Powder: Which allows you to remove pets.
  • Blue Grass Starter.
  • Moss Soup.
  • Secret items.
