Team MYS is arguably one of the strongest teams in Asia in terms of the Asian Pokémon UNITE competitive scene, frequently battling other Asian titans such as Orangutan and Rex Regum Qeon in the finals.
This time around however, they’ll be going up against the best teams in the world at the Pokémon UNITE World Championships.
Are they prepared for the challenge?

Qualifying for the World Championships is the goal for all trainers competing in the Pokémon UNITE World Championship Series.
Wayne “Rebongs” Chua, captain of Team MYS, highlighted some of the challenges their team faced and how they continue to address them till today.
“Before qualifying, we’ve had a lot of trouble with the team in terms of finding the right playstyle that really worked for us,” said Rebongs. “We didn’t have any strategies that everyone was comfortable playing with so it was a rough week for us ahead of the qualifiers.”
“At the moment, we’re focusing on expanding our Pokémon roster so we can play more strategies. At least everyone is flexible on their roles in our team!”
Team MYS is one of the few teams in Southeast Asia that are capable of flexing Pokémon and roles when needed. If they can further expand their flexibility going into the World Championships, it would certainly give them an edge over the competition.

Rebongs thinks having a good mindset will help Team MYS thrive at the World Championships
While they’ve gotten all their travel documents ready in preparation for the World Championships, they still have one more thing to do before heading out — adjusting their mindset.
“Going to the Regionals, the team had doubts whether we could play properly or not, so I want to reinforce the idea of not wanting to go to the World Championships with regrets,” Rebongs shared.
“I want them to have the eagerness to play the game. To me, if we give our best and lose that’s fine, but if we don’t give our full effort and potential, I think that’s wrong and I don’t want them to have any regrets.”
A lot of players forget to have fun during competitions, and Rebongs is trying to nurture something different with the team so whatever the result may be, it will still be a positive experience.
The Pokémon World Championships will be the culminating event for all competitive Pokémon series, including Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the trading card game, Pokémon GO, and of course, Pokémon UNITE.
It will be held August 11 to 13 in Yokohama, Japan, the first time the World Championships will be held in the country.
