With the recent resurgence in retro gaming, the granddaddy of video games, Atari, is now releasing a new console, the Atari VCS.
The Atari VCS is a modern redesign of the Atari 2600 (AKA Atari Video Computer System), incorporating new console designs that update its capabilities.
The Atari console has received an aesthetic makeover, replacing its original brown coloring with a minimalist black finish with a hint of Atari’s classic red on the controllers.
The VCS gets a handful of mechanical upgrades too to bring it into the modern era, including AMD Ryzen processors, USB inputs, an HDMI port, and WiFi/Bluetooth features. You can even play, record, and stream all your games in 4K resolution.

The VCS’ gaming experience ditches its cartridge system and replaces it with the Atari Vault, a library filled with more than 100 of your favorite home and arcade classics. Some classics like Missile Command have been remastered/remade for the VCS so we may see some all-time favorites get a new look to help fill up the Atari VCS store.
For its operating system, you can stick with the default Linux-based OS, Atari World, or install your preferred OS such as Windows in the Atari PC Sandbox Mode.
Though it may not be as powerful as today’s consoles, the Atari VCS provides contemporary gamers with a simpler way of gaming. The Atari 2600 brought games like Space Invaders, Asteroids, and the illustrious Pac-Man to households around the world in 1977.
