Deadlock is constantly gaining popularity on Steam even though it is in early access. The hero shooter is unique as it combines the ideas of both MOBA and shooters and therefore has many unique mechanics.

One such unexplained concept is the Deadlock Flex Slots mechanic.

In short, Flex Slots in Deadlock are extra ability spaces that are unlocked throughout a match. How to make use of such slots completely depends on the players themselves.

Before explaining Flex Slots it is important to know about other item slots in Deadlock. There are three main item types that affect character power: Weapon, Vitality, and Spirit.

A total of four items can be equipped together under one category. This sums up 12 items (4 Weapon Items, 4 Vitality Items, and 4 Spirit Items), which can be equipped by default.

Flex Slots are extra spaces for any of the three item types. For instance, you can have five or six weapon upgrade items equipped at once. All of this is possible through Flex Slots which are flexible to item types.

At the start of every match, all Flex Slots are locked due to their massive potential. Like all locks, these can be unlocked too, and here’s how:

  • Slot 1: The team needs to destroy all enemy Guardians on all four lanes.
  • Slot 2: The team needs to destroy two enemy Walkers on either of the four lanes.
  • Slot 3: The team needs to destroy all enemy Walker on all four lanes.
  • Slot 4: The team needs to destroy at least one Shrine at the enemy base.

Flex Slot 1 can be unlocked easily during the early game of Deadlock, but the team must coordinate the attack to take down all Guardians.

Focus on Slot 3 and 4, during mid-game as you’ll have an idea about what type of build will help you become unstoppable. However, it is best to focus on mid-boss spawn during a game, as it could easily shift the tides during a game.

As for Flex Slot 4, it can be considered optional as it is a late-game unlockable. So, whether you’d use it or not depends on team requirements.
