Origin and background
Lilith is an integral part of the Diablo lore, making her first appearance in the Diablo 2 expansion, Lord of Destruction. In the twisted universe of Diablo, she is depicted as the Queen of Succubi and the Mother of Sanctuary.
She is the daughter of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, and the sister of Lucion and Lucifron, the other two Prime Evils. However, she holds a unique position among the denizens of the Burning Hells.
Unlike her brothers, Lilith was banished by her family due to her rebellious and independent nature. As a result, she created her own faction of Succubi, a demonic race that embodies both seduction and terror.
Tired of the endless war between the High Heavens and Burning Hells, Lilith partnered with the rogue archangel Inaruis to create a safe haven for angels and demons looking to escape the conflict.
By using a powerful artifact known as the World Stone, they created Sanctuary. The union between angels and demons also led to the birth of the Nephalem, a new race that had powers from both factions.
As the Nephalem’s power grew, the angels and demons worried they would be surpassed, leading to new conflict in Sanctuary. Inarius prevented an all-out war between the factions in Sanctuary. But Lilith took it upon herself to eradicate those who threatened the Nephalem.
This caused Inarius to banish Lilith from Sanctuary and tinker with the World Stone to weaken the Nephalem. As centuries passed, the Nephalem evolved into the human race. Finally, after years of imprisonment, a cult devoted to the Daughter of Hatred broke Lilith out and opened the door for her return to Sanctuary.
