Steps to install Discord on Steam Deck
Steam Deck uses a custom operating system called SteamOS, which can run most Windows-based executables. Since Discord has no official support on Steam Deck, users have to install the software using third-party solutions.
Since you won’t be able to just install and use it, follow this guide. Make sure to follow each step precisely to avoid problems. Let’s get into the guide right away.
- Press the Steam Button on your handheld console and navigate to the Power option then select it (You can hold down the hardware power button to do the same).
- After a new menu shows up, select the “Switch to Desktop” option. This will take you to a more familiar operating system interface.
- While in desktop mode, you’ll find an app with a blue shopping bag icon. This is the Discover app, which lets you install various software on the Steam Deck. Simply open it by using the trackpad and tap the R2 button (Left Click).
- In the Discover application, you’ll find a search button. Tap on it using the touch screen or use the trackpads to select it. Press the Steam button + X to bring up the on-screen keyboard. Type “Discord” into the box and press enter. (Press the Steam button again to close the on-screen keyboard)
- Once the Discord app shows up on Discover, press install to add it to your Steam Deck. However, we’re not done yet.
- Open the Steam app while on Desktop Mode. On top, you’ll find the Games option, and select “Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library.” This will open a window and select Discord from it. Then press “ADD SELECTED PROGRAMS” to add it to Steam.
After completing all these steps, you can go back to Gaming Mode. If you ever have to find the software, you can access it from the Non-Steam Games tab on your Steam Deck.
