You heard that right, after so many years (okay, it hasn’t been that many but when you play this game daily it sure feels like it) the Genshin Impact pity system is finally receiving much needed improvements — the new mechanic is called Capturing Radiance.
The Genshin Impact pity system is a mechanic designed to ensure that players eventually receive a high-rarity item or character when performing Wishes. This system helps balance the randomness of the gacha pulls and provides a level of assurance for players.
There’s soft pity, where the probability of pulling a 5-star item becomes much higher as you approach 75 Wishes, and there’s hard pity, where the guaranteed 5-star item will appear by the 90th Wish if you haven’t pulled one before that.
Now, there’s a new mechanic to improve your chances even more that was introduced during the Genshin Impact Version 5.0 Special Program.
What is Capturing Radiance? Find out about Genshin Impact pity system’s new mechanic
When players encounter a 50-50 situation, there’s a chance that you encounter a Capturing Radiance event.
When this event appears, marked by the distinguished new animation, the result of the pull is guaranteed to be the promotional 5-star on the featured banner.
However, do note that this does not affect the probability of previous guarantees.
Capturing Radiance only increases the chances of pulling the current promotional 5-star character on live banners. It doesn’t affect anything else in the game.
Weapon banners, Epitome Invocation, now have reduced Fate Points
On top of that, starting from Genshin Impact version 5.0, Epitome Invocation, the weapon wish banner will have reduced Fate Points from two to one.
The game has come a long way, considering that the original Genshin Impact pity system on the weapon banner started off with no guarantees, which resulted in some streamers spending thousands of dollars just to secure the featured 5-star weapon.
The game developers then introduced the Fate Point system where you can choose the weapon you want and set your course accordingly.
If you don’t get the desired weapon within the 75/25 probability split, you’ll earn one Fate Point.
Once you accumulate two Fate Points, you’re guaranteed that the next 5-star weapon you obtain will be the one you’ve been aiming for.
Now, starting from version 5.0, you only need to accumulate one Fate Point to guarantee that the next 5-star weapon you pull is your desired one.
Every Genshin Impact anniversary will hand out free 5-star character from standard banner
What’s more, all Travelers who have unlocked the Wish System will be offered to choose any 5-star character from Wanderlust Invocation, the game’s standard wish banner, for free. This will occur annually every year during Genshin Impact’s anniversary celebration in September (the game was first released on September 28, 2020).
It gets better — HoYoverse will add new characters to the standard wish banner as the game grows every year too. This gives players more options as the versions progress.
Genshin Impact 5.0 releases on August 28, 2024. The last character to be added to the standard banner is 5-star Pyro character, Dehya.
