Genshin Impact raises the Inazuma banner high ever since Raiden Shogun’s introduction to the game.

While Sangonomiya Kokomi is considered to be a solid support unit, Raiden Shogun steals the show as a must-have character from the Electro nation.

Don’t believe us? Here are five reasons why Raiden Shogun is worth all your primogems.

5 reasons why you should roll for Raiden Shogun right now

5. You get a solid discount in weapon ascension

Once you’ve conquered a few world ascension quests in the game, your weapons will need a decent upgrade to fight stronger hilichurls and domains. Such upgrades will cost you a few bags of Mora, but Raiden has got you covered.

Her passive skill, All-Preserver, grants a whopping 50% discount on all sword and polearm ascensions. The best part yet is that Raiden herself is a polearm user, making it the perfect asset when players build her as a party member.

4. Raiden redefined the power of Electro

Even with the release of Yae Miko, Raiden Shogun is still the strongest Electro character in the game right now.

The 5-star is known for singlehandedly putting the Electro element into the meta. If you want Electro damage, tons of energy, and killer reactions, she can do it all.

Equipped with a well-rounded kit that focuses on energy recharge, Raiden also synergizes well with fellow Electro characters, such as bow user Kujou Sara and Liyue’s DPS pirate Beidou.

3. She’s got a limitless, party-wide elemental skill

Do you hate cooldowns? So does Raiden Shogun.

Raiden’s elemental skill Baleful Omen is an overpowered move that adds Electro damage to your basic attacks. Players can expect immediate Overload or Superconduct reactions when pairing Raiden with heavy hitters like Diluc or Ganyu.

The best part of Baleful Omen is its non-existent cooldown. Though the skill does have a cooldown of ten seconds, its active uptime is 25 seconds, which means that you can repeatedly cast Baleful Omen and boost your party’s burst damage indefinitely.

If you’re playing in co-op mode, this skill is the ultimate party buff. Once cast, Baleful Omen’s eye will appear above all present characters and grant them the same Electro damage bonus.

2. Her burst weapon is a lightning-infused tachi

While most of her skills make her an off-field support unit, Raiden Shogun’s elemental burst, Musou Shinsetsu, proves that she is all about damage.

The burst turns Raiden into the ultimate Electro DPS, swapping her polearm for a lightning-infused tachi. In this form (Musou Isshin), her attacks now deal Electro damage and regenerate energy for the rest of the party. She also has a higher resistance to interruption, allowing players to go toe to toe with the most fearsome opponents.

What’s more, the damage of Musou Shinsetsu’s initial slash scales with the burst damage output of the rest of the team. If you’re able to accumulate Baleful Omen’s stacks of Chakra Desiderata (indicated by the purple circle behind your unit), you can swap Raiden Shogun in for a deadly finisher.

1. Raiden Shogun is the eternal ruler of Inazuma

Warning: Spoilers if you haven’t played the Inazuma Archon and Raiden Shogun story quests.

If you’ve been keeping up with the buzz around Inazuma’s political factions, you probably know that Raiden Shogun is the exalted ruler of the Inazuma Shogunate and the vessel of the Electro Archon.

A literal goddess amongst humans, Raiden exists in two forms: Ei, her true identity, and the Shogun, a puppet created by her to fill in as Inazuma’s ruler as she meditates in the Plane of Euthymia.

While the two were determined to preserve Inazuma in the spiritual plane, Ei eventually realizes how her departure from the real world centuries ago had ended up harming her nation.

Going through this emotional journey with Traveler and the apparition of Makoto, her sister and the former Raiden Shogun, she vows to be a present and more thoughtful ruler for the rest of her reign. A beautiful redemption arc, I must say.
