Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate now holds the record for the best-selling fighting game of all time.
First released on 7 December 2018, SSBU has now sold 15.71 million units, beating the previous record held by Capcom’s Street Fighter II, which has sold 15.5 million units since its release in 1991.
SSBU has also surpassed the sales records of a number of other popular Nintendo titles, including Super Mario Odyssey (15.38M) and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (14.54M) which were both released in 2017.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, SSBU also holds the record for the fastest-selling Nintendo game of all time, selling 12.01 million units in its first three weeks.
The one record SSBU has yet to break is the title of best-selling Nintendo Switch game of all time, which is currently held by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which has 19.01 million units sold.
