Video game developer HoYoverse has announced that the English voice actor for Moze, an upcoming playable character in Honkai Star Rail, will be replaced.
This decision comes after original voice actor, Chris Niosi, stepped down following public outcry over past misconduct allegations.
The announcement follows a week of controversy surrounding Moze’s character reveal. The 4-star Shadow Guard, specializing in intelligence gathering, uses Lightning-based attacks and follows The Hunt path.
HoYoverse has not yet announced who will replace Chris Niosi as the voice of Moze in Honkai Star Rail as of writing.
HoYoverse to replace Moze voice actor Chris Niosi in a later version
The Moze voice actor posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) stating the reason why he decided to depart from the role.
“Having spent the last week reading the comments from the community, I cannot in good faith continue in a role that would cause undue pain for so many people, especially those I have hurt in the past,” Chris wrote.
In a 2018 Tumblr post, Niosi confessed to a history of abuse toward colleagues, family, and partners spanning over a decade.
Chris expressed his well wishes for the next Moze voice actor who will eventually replace him. He also thanked HoYoverse for the opportunity to bring the character to life, even for a brief period.
Chris is known for his original portrayal of the male protagonist, Byleth, in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. However, his role was recast, with Zach Aguilar as a replacement, following the game’s 1.0.2 update.
His video game credits include prominent roles such as Alex Eggleston in YIIK: A Postmodern RPG, Therion in Octopath Traveler, and Dezel in Tales of Zestiria.
He’s also recognized for his voice acting in anime, bringing to life characters like Arataka Reigen in Mob Psycho 100, Shaiapouf in Hunter x Hunter, and Colress in Pokémon Generations.
