To make the Radiant Feldspar truly your own, you’ll get to choose a trusty Honkai Star Rail first mate and customize the airship to your liking.

What is the Honkai Star Rail first mate all about?
Think of the first mate as a vice-captain on the Radiant Feldspar. It’s a special character you choose who helps manage the ship. But unlike a traditional ship, you won’t be directly giving orders.
There’s a catch though: you only get one shot at picking your first mate. There are restrictions, and unless they do something really bad, you’ll be stuck with your choice.
How to unlock Cloud-Bound Hearts quest: choose your Honkai Star Rail first mate
Ready to pick your right-hand person for the Radiant Feldspar? Here’s how to do it:
- Complete “Farewell, Penacony” Trailblaze Mission. This mission unlocks the Cloud-Bound Hearts quest, which is how you choose your first mate.
- Head to the Radiant Feldspar’s cockpit. This is the control center of the ship, located at the very front (northmost part).
- Talk to the Family Secretary. Once you start the Cloud-Bound Hearts quest, head up the stairs and speak to the person in charge of crew matters, the Family Secretary. They’ll help you choose your first mate.
Honkai Star Rail first mate options
Players can choose from three different NPCs for their Honkai Star Rail first mate.
Honkai Star Rail first mate: Rosa
This meticulous and energetic Halovian prioritizes your needs. She’ll focus on crew management, implementing a code of conduct, and even getting everyone matching uniforms.
If you value a structured and organized environment, Rosa might be your ideal choice.
Honkai Star Rail first mate: Caldwick
This sophisticated Intellitron boasts a PhD in Management and an impressive track record. He’ll select a diverse and creative crew based on his own management principles.
If you prefer a more hands-off approach and trust his expertise, Caldwick could be a good fit.
Honkai Star Rail first mate: Pedro
A seasoned spacefarer with a strong network, Pedro comes from a long line of navigators. He’ll hire his Pepeshi kin to crew the ship.
If you value experience and loyalty, and perhaps don’t mind a more familial crew dynamic, Pedro might be the first mate for you.
Customizing your airship in Honkai Star Rail
Once you’ve chosen your trusty first mate, it’s time to personalize the Radiant Feldspar and make it truly your own.
Your first mate will ask if you have any favorite pets or mascots. This is where the customization comes in. You’ll be presented with three design options:

The design you choose will be prominently displayed on the tail section of the airship, known as the empennage. Even cooler, the Radiant Feldspar’s name will also change to reflect your chosen design.
Cloud-Bound Hearts rewards
After completing Cloud-Bound Hearts, you’ll receive 30 Stellar Jades, 3x Traveler’s Guide, 360 Clock Credits, and 31,000 Credits.
On top of these rewards, completing Cloud-Bound Hearts also unlocks achievements “O Captain, My Captain!” and “My Captain, My Ship.”
