After completing the Trailblaze Mission “The Sound and the Fury,” the burning question lingers — is Firefly dead?
Warning: Major spoilers if you haven’t played “Should One Awaken at Midnight,” a continuation quest about Firefly in Honkai Star Rail 2.0 main storyline.
Throughout the game, this non-playable character (NPC) raised multiple death flags, particularly evident in the White Knight music video released before the 2.0 patch.
The music video depicted her falling from a great height, suggesting her demise.
A brief moment shows her turning to dust beside Caelus, the male Trailblazer, hinting at her fate within the narrative.
Furthermore, her name, Firefly, alludes to the insect known for its short lifespan.

We learn, implied through the dialogue with Acheron and Black Swan, that if you die in the Dreamscape, it’s no different from dying in real life.
Later, in Honkai Star Rail 2.1, we learn that Firefly is still alive and that she is the person inside the armor of Sam, a member of the Stellaron Hunters.
Firefly was dead for a while but came to life as a persona linked to Sam.
Is Robin dead?
Upon arriving at The Reverie Hotel in Penacony, Robin stands out as one of the initial characters you meet.
Renowned as a singer throughout the region, she’s slated to grace the stage at The Charmony Festival.
Apart from a few brief encounters, her presence remains scarce until the culmination of the Trailblaze Mission, where she surprises everyone.
Following the conclusion of the Whodunit mission, Aventurine guides you back to your room, where a distressing sight awaits: Robin lies injured in the dreampool. Suddenly, she transforms into bubbles, dissipating into nothingness before your eyes.
Later, Sunday and Sparkle discuss Robin’s disappearance. Sunday confirms that Robin is “spiritually dead,” which is caused by a Memory Zone Meme named “Something Unto Death.” This Meme explains why Robin vanishes in bubbles within Penacony’s dream world.
We later learn that “Something Unto Death” was created for transportation within the dream world. Despite Robin’s disappearance, both Robin’s physical body and spiritual being are still alive.
Is Tingyun dead?
The very first character death that Trailblazers witness takes place at the Xianzhou Luofu.
In the Trailblaze mission “Desolate Depths of Despair,” Tingyun is revealed as an imposter possessed by Lord Ravager Phantylia. Tragically, during this revelation, the heliobus abruptly snaps Tingyun’s neck.
Following the confrontation with Phantylia, Tingyun’s body mysteriously disappears, leaving her presumed dead.
In the following quest, “Obsequies Performed, A Long Road Ahead,” Madam Yukong arranges a ceremony to bid farewell to her former colleague at the Sky-Faring Commission, marking Tingyun’s tragic end.
In a surprising turn of events during the Trailblaze Continuance Mission “Finest Duel Under the Pristine Blue (II),” the real Tingyun is revealed to be alive. She is discovered by Ruan Mei, a member of the Genius Society.
Is Ifrit dead?
In one of the flashback scenes from Honkai Star Rail 2.1 Trailblaze Mission, titled “Cat Among Pigeons,” it is revealed that Ifrit is dead, with implications suggesting Acheron is the culprit.
With Ifrit’s flames fading and time ticking away, he chose to confront Acheron until his last moments.
The scene leaves players pondering, as the exact circumstances of Ifrit’s death remain shrouded in mystery, with no clear depiction provided.
Is Sunday dead?
One of the most gripping cliffhangers in the Honkai Star Rail 2.1 storyline revolves around Sunday’s fate.
During a confrontation with Gallagher, the security officer of the Bloodhound Family in Penacony, Sunday suspects Gallagher’s involvement with the Memory Zone Meme “Death” and its connection to the murders on the Planet of Festivities.
As Gallagher reveals his true intentions and extinguishes his lighter, the ominous shadow of the Memory Zone Meme “Death” looms behind Sunday. Suddenly, a liquid splashes onto the ground, resembling the same substance when Firefly met her demise, and then the game’s screen abruptly fades to black.
The question remains: Is Sunday dead?
We later learn that the Memory Zone Meme doesn’t actually kill people. So, despite the ominous scene, Sunday is confirmed to be alive.
However, the story doesn’t end there. After completing the “In Our Time” Trailblaze Mission, Sunday mysteriously disappears from Penacony. There’s no explanation or goodbye — he simply vanishes.
In one scene, we see Sunday talking to Ten Stonehearts’ Jade. During this confrontation, it’s revealed that Sunday’s sister, Robin, has made a deal with the owner of the Bonajade Exchange.
Sunday’s fate remains a cliffhanger. We’ll have to wait and see what future updates in Honkai Star Rail reveal about Sunday’s whereabouts and motivations.
