Nintendo’s smash-hit simulation game Animal Crossing: New Horizons has made digital history only a month after its March 20 release by selling a whopping 5 million digital copies on the Nintendo Switch.
New Horizons ousted Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III, which previously held the title for most console digital sales in the span of a month, according to Nielsen Company’s SuperData.

Animal Crossing’s first-month digital sales numbers almost rivaled the combined first-month sales of two other smash-hit Switch games, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokémon Sword and Shield, which sold 2.49 million and 2.7 million units, respectively.
The closure of physical stores and gaming companies’ encouragement of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic arguably played a huge part in setting up this digital feat.
This shouldn’t take anything away from the game’s achievement, however. Its immense popularity and wholesome appeal make it a genuine fan-favorite for gamers everywhere.
