Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan and Singapore native has pledged to commit S$10 million (US$7.25 million) over the next year to the gaming and esports scene in his home country.

The funding will go towards supporting esports teams in Singapore and investing in gaming and esports companies that are either in Singapore or founded by Singaporeans, Tan said on an announcement on his Facebook page.

Part of the fund will also be used to support the Singaporean National Esports Team that will be competing in the esports medal event for the upcoming 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, of which Razer is notably an official partner. The company also recently hosted a boot camp for the national esports teams competing in the games, where they trained under the top North American squad Evil Geniuses.

“I’d like to give back and do more for gaming in Singapore,” said Tan.

The Razer CEO added that his commitment follows Singapore Minister Chan Chun Sing’s support for gaming and esports in the country.

Singapore has long been one of the gaming and esports hotbeds in SEA, with the likes of Daryl “iceiceice” Koh Pei Xiang in Dota 2, Ho “Xian” Kun Xian in Street Fighter, and Amraan “Amraan” Gani in FIFA representing the country in tournaments around the world.
