Esports continues to show its growing influence in mainstream media, as the the next episode of the hit American cartoon ‘The Simpsons’ will feature one of the show’s main characters, Bart Simpson, become an esports star.
The episode will be called ‘E my Sports’ and will air on Sunday, March 17. A tweet from longtime Simpsons writer Al Jean indicates that Bart will be playing a game called Conflict of Enemies, referencing the major esports title League of Legends (LoL).

The producers of the Simpsons consulted with LoL developer Riot Games for the episode, specifically the studio’s esports co-heads Whalen Rozelle and Jarred Kennedy, as well as LoL Championship Series (LCS) commentator David “Phreak” Turley.
Riot said their participation will help ensure “the experience depicted in the episode was authentic to the players, fans and coaches who compete professionally in League of Legends.”
Being featured in a show as popular and influential as the Simpsons is yet another example of the growing presence and legitimacy of esports and competitive gaming in mainstream media. ESPN recently launched the Collegiate Esports Championship (CEC) to help foster esports talent and competition in hundreds of colleges and universities in the U.S.A.
