In the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) Summer 2023 finals, G2 Esports asserted their absolute dominance.
They put on a stellar performance, sweeping Excel Esports 3-0 in a best-of-five series and securing a US$44,000 prize along with 180 championship points. This victory marks their second championship win this season, after their triumph in LEC Winter 2023 earlier in the year.

G2 Esports sweeps Excel Esports 3-0 in LEC Summer 2023 finals
G2 showcased their finesse throughout the first game of the series. During the mid-game, they capitalized on opportunities, picking off Excel members one by one in skirmishes around the dragon lane. Rasmus “Caps” Winther delivered an impressive triple kill, with Steven “Hans Sama” Liv’s Kai’Sa finishing the fight, leading to an ace.
Hans Sama’s later secured a quadra kill, concluding game one and propelling his team to take the lead 1-0.
Game two saw Excel attempting to regain their footing by initiating team fights and targeting G2 members to close the gold gap. However, G2’s middle and late-game prowess shone through as they showcased remarkable survivability in critical situations, securing several teamfight victories. Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik’s Jax achieved a quadra kill, pushing G2 to a 2-0 matchpoint lead.
By game three, G2’s momentum was unstoppable. Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle’s Leona displayed exceptional performance during crucial team fights, expertly sidestepping attacks and surviving with just a sliver of HP left.
In a dominating display, G2 achieved a clean sweep, defeating Excel Esports with a 3-0 score in the finals.
As a result of their performance, G2 Esports has now earned the first seed for the upcoming LEC Season Finals 2023. This culminating event is scheduled to take place on August 19 and will see G2 facing off against MAD Lions, Team BDS, Fnatic, SK Gaming, and, yet again, Excel Esports.
This resounding victory has also earned Caps his ninth LEC title, surpassing his former teammate Luka “Perkz” Perkovic, making him the most decorated player in the region.
“(This trophy) means a lot to me, especially because we just have improved a lot throughout the splits,” he said in the post-match interview. “It feels very nice to have your hard work rewarded. During this split, we really tried to step up our gameplay compared to MSI and the disappointing Spring Split ending.”
