Updated on December 2, 9:33 a.m. (GMT+8): Updated official patch release date.
Hwei the Visionary is a brooding painter who hails from Ionia. Riot Games previewed the new control-artillery mage champion during the Worlds 2023 final.
He is League of Legends’ first true human male spell caster intended for the mid lane. Packing a complex kit with 10 unique spells, he is a high skill cap champion who requires hours to master, and will definitely impact pro play.
Because he brings a new level of gameplay with layers of complexity, players are super excited to see him on Summoner’s Rift.
When is Hwei coming out on PBE?
The last time Riot released a mage was two years ago in 2021 when Vex was added to the roster in patch 13.21.
During a media roundtable, the Riot Games design team shared that they noticed that their control mage roster in mid is primarily dominated by monsters and non-human individuals like Vex herself, Orianna, Xerath, Malzahar, and Ziggs to name a few. You get the picture.
And so, we’re ready to welcome the game’s first true human male mage. Hwei will be on PBE test servers on November 20, 2023.
