Misfits Gaming rookie mid laner Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié is making a strong campaign for Rookie of the Year with a very impressive showing in his first game against Fnatic in the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) Week 1 Day 1.

Around the mid game, Misfits Gaming has set up a very important fight to guard and claim the upcoming Infernal Drake by the 20-minute mark. Caught in the clash were three players each from Fnatic and Misfits Gaming, but let’s focus on the 1v1 fight between Vetheo’s Zoe and Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer’s Viktor.

Late in the game, Vetheo’s Zoe encountered Nisqy’s Viktor in the Fnatic jungle. Vetheo immediately cast his Sleepy Trouble Bubble which left Nisqy in a short slumber.

Vetheo followed up by exhausting his Flash spell and casting Paddle Star, which Nisqy neatly sidestepped to deliver his Death Ray. At this point, Vetheo’s champion health is so low that it looked like he was about to die and lose the fight. However, this was exactly the point when things started turning around his favor.

Vetheo utilized Zoe’s Spell Thief ability to pick up the Mythic item Galeforce and the Smite spell from the nearby Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek’s Hecarim. In one swift move, Vetheo used the Galeforce’s dash to position himself so he can easily steal the Smite. Vetheo cast the spell to Nisqy which turned the tides to his favor by dealing a huge chunk of damage and healing him at the same time.

While this fight initially looked very much in favor of Nisqy, Vetheo was able to sustain himself with the small decisions that he made in just split-seconds of time.

Nisqy activated his Stopwatch to buy Selfmade some time to rescue him, but Vetheo, being the Zoe master that he is, already cast his Paddle Star in the opposite direction perfectly timed to kill him as soon as the stasis effect wore down.

With Nisqy already down, Vetheo found himself on another tight spot as Selfmade rushed to avenge his fallen teammate. But Vetheo showed the audience another clever use of Zoe’s Spell Thief by picking up Nisqy’s Stopwatch item and activating it to save him from death and buy time for his backups Iván “Razork” Martín Díaz’s Taliyah and Oskar “Vander” Bogdan’s Galio to arrive. Seeing how he was outnumbered, Selfmade decided to disengage from the fight.

You would think Vetheo is already done at this point since he only has a pixel of HP left, but he saw another opportunity. With his perfect timing and positioning, Vetheo used the wall in front of him to extend the range of Zoe’s Sleepy Trouble Bubble to reach Selfmade’s Hecarim (who was already under the turret) and put him in a short siesta. Vetheo finished the fight with a very POG tower dive using Zoe’s ultimate ability Portal Jump to score that sweet double kill.

Again, we give our hats off to this young French mid laner who pulled off this very clutch play which left a great impression as his opening performance coming from the La Ligue Française (LFL) to the LEC.

Zoe is actually Vetheo’s signature champion with a 57.1% win rate throughout his career. Because of this, Zoe has been one of the most banned champions in the LFL.

In the end, Misfits Gaming was able to kill the Infernal Drake to give them offensive buffs to push for Fnatic’s Nexus and hand them their first loss of the year.

Vetheo and the Misfits Gaming squad will be facing off against Rogue this Saturday, January 30 at 4:00 a.m. GMT+8. How will this rookie fare against Rogue’s Emil “Larssen” Larsson, who’s one of the KDA leaders this week?
