G2 Esports concluded their 2024 season in the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) with a dominant 3-1 victory over long-time rivals, Fnatic, in the LEC Season Finals 2024 final, held at Munich Olympic Hall in Munich, Germany. This marks G2’s second LEC Season Finals title.

The road to the final was challenging for G2, as they started the tournament in the losers’ bracket after a defeat to MAD Lions KOI. However, they showcased their resilience by defeating GIANTX, Team BDS, and MAD Lions KOI once again to earn their spot in the final against Fnatic.

The LEC Season Finals 2024 kicked off with a thrilling first game between Fnatic and G2 Esports. This match set a new record for the longest game in the tournament’s history at 51 minutes.

Towards the late game, Fnatic pushed hard and nearly secured a victory, but G2’s base defense, led by Caps and Martin “Yike” Sundelin’s Zyra, held strong.

Ultimately, a decisive engagement initiated by Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle’s Rakan allowed G2 to wipe out Fnatic and claim a 1-0 lead in the series.

Humanoid carries Fnatic in game two

Fnatic’s slow and steady approach in game two paid off. They controlled the map, securing key objectives and picking off G2 members in team fights. This strategic play allowed them to maintain pressure and gradually chip away at G2’s lead.

Marek “Humanoid” Brázda was the standout player, delivering a quadra kill that effectively sealed victory for Fnatic. His Smolder proved to be a formidable force, dealing a staggering 1,304 damage per minute according to LEC.

G2 dominates game three with objective control

G2 Esports bounced back in game three, recovering from an early deficit by effectively utilizing cross-map plays and securing key objectives. Caps’ Azir played a key role, placing turrets to control the map and provide an advantage for G2.

A crucial late-game teamfight saw Mikyx’s Rell land a devastating 4-man Magnet Storm, setting up a barrage of spells from Yike’s Brand and Caps’ Azir.

Fnatic struggled to regain momentum, and in a final clash, G2 focused on isolating Óscar “Oscarinin” Muñoz Jiménez’s Camille, leading to a team wipe.

With Fnatic’s defenses breached, G2 secured a 2-1 lead in the series, putting them one game away from victory.

G2’s macro gaming is what it’s all about in game four

G2 Esports demonstrated a brilliant draft in game four, selecting champions that played to their strengths. Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik chose K’Sante, a champion he excels at, while Yike opted for Brand, a pick he had a 100% win rate on during the LEC Summer 2024 playoffs according to gol.gg.

The early and mid game stages saw a relatively even balance between the two teams in terms of kills and gold. However, G2’s superior macro-gaming became apparent in the late game. They effectively secured objectives, capitalized on their advantages, and ultimately snowballed their lead to secure a victory in game four and claim the LEC Season Finals 2024 title.

G2 Esports’ victory in the LEC Season Finals 2024 secured them a grand slam, winning all three splits (LEC Winter 2024, LEC Spring 2024, LEC Summer 2024) and the LEC Season Finals title. This marks Caps’ 14th LEC championship.
