Updated on December 4, 5:20 p.m. (GMT+8): Added more information from Riot Phroxzon.
League of Legends Game Designer David “Phreak” Turley posted a preview of LoL patch 14.24 today.
In the tweet, he mentioned that this is a smaller patch because the team is gearing up for Season 1: Noxus that comes out at the start of 2025.
“This patch is a mix of follow-up from recent changes and tuning the largest outliers. We also are budgeting time for a 14.24b micropatch later this month but may not ship anything,” Riot Phreak wrote.
League of Legends Lead Gameplay Designer Matt “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison followed up in a tweet today, giving more details about the rational behind some of these changes.
Preview: LoL patch 14.24 notes rundown
LoL patch 14.24 Champion buffs
- Master Yi
- Rell
- Rumble
- Twitch
- Yuumi
LoL patch 14.24 Champion nerfs
- Ambessa
- Corki
- Elise
- Graves
- LeBlanc
- Mundo
- Riven
- Swain
- Talon
The balance team is happy with Ambessa’s launch because she strikes a good balance of not being too weak or overpowered during early mastery curves. Now that they’ve had two solid patches to observe how her matchups, builds, and learning curve work, they’re ready to make adjustments.
Because players have grown more proficient with her, her top-end power has become more apparent, Riot Phroxzon wrote. They’re therefore addressing her ability to dominate so consistently across her matchups, particularly in tougher ones.
With tools like Grasp, Second Wind, and her shield size, she’s often coming out even or ahead in matchups where she should be struggling, the team observed, which they aim to adjust.
LoL patch 14.24 Champion adjustments
- Viktor
- Warwick
- Poppy
Warwick
The game devs found a better way to restore Warwick’s attack speed functionality when acquiring targets and are reintroducing it in this patch. To balance this change, they are including a minor nerf since he’s currently overperforming, particularly at average skill levels.
Viktor
Riot Phroxzon took the time to detail Viktor’s changes in LoL patch 14.24 and address player feedback.
Regarding W feeling unsatisfying and underwhelming as an ability, he shared the team’s reasoning for making it more satisfying and consistent without increasing its overall power.
“If Viktor’s W is too strong, it will require too many tradeoffs to both his class profile (he will be more of a Catcher) and need to trade off some of the aspects of his kit that stand out relative to the roster (eg. his burst, repeatability and speed in particular),” Riot Phroxzon explained.
“We and many Viktor mains consider those aspects to be sacred and to facilitate his identity of being a closer range champion with this profile, it is important that W serves better as a reactive/zone control/punishing tool rather than a catch spell,” he added.
Viktor’s early game impact has been relatively low in high-level play, though he performs decently at lower levels, Riot Phroxzon revealed.
The removal of Biscuit mana and his dependence on early jungle help for Hexfragments have made him feel overly reliant on his team during the early game. To address this, Riot is enhancing his ability to trade and sustain through buffs to his E mana efficiency and Q shield.
They hope that his passive stacks will “be more reliant on farming well,” instead of being dependent on an early fight to get him going. Improving the consistency of his W also makes him more effective in early skirmishes.
