After over a decade of having separate servers, Riot Games is finally merging its LoL SEA servers, giving League of Legends players what they’ve been asking for.
With the LoL SEA server merge, players from Thailand, Philippines, and Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia servers can now play together.
“(We wanted to) create the best possible experience for every game you play and to bring more players across the region together,” Riot Games said in a press release.
Here’s what players can expect in the merging of LoL SEA servers Thailand, The Philippines, and Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia
Players can expect a significantly improved matchmaking experience with the unification of these three regional servers. With a larger player pool, queue times are shorter and games are more evenly matched.
Additionally, Riot Games promises smoother, lower-latency gameplay by centralizing their server infrastructure.
“If you’re playing in Thailand or the Philippines, you may experience a ping increase of 20ms or
so, but this will have little to no impact on your overall gameplay experience,” Riot Games said. “You can expect a similar ping rate to that of Valorant those locations.”
As part of the merge, all accounts are transferred to the unified LoL SEA server. Once the merge is complete, players will no longer have access to their old regional servers.
Almost everything will be transferred to the merged SEA server, including:
- Riot ID
- Remaining RP
- Champions and skins (including ward skins)
- Friends list
- Hidden MMR Value (Adapted to the new region)
It is important to note however, that your account’s Victory Points and Forum Badges won’t transfer to the new merged server.
If you play on the Thailand or Philippines servers, Clash match history and club affiliations will not transfer as well.
When are the LoL SEA servers merging?
LoL SEA servers merge on Thursday, January 9, 2025 (GMT+8), with the release of LoL patch 15.1.
The server merge will be done server by server and is expected to be completed within the same downtime expected for patch releases.
Thailand, Philippines, and Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia servers originally launched in July 2010 and were managed by Garena, a digital services company.
Garena handled the distribution of Riot Games’ popular titles to SEA players, including League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Valorant, and Legends of Runeterra.
In 2023, Riot Games transitioned to direct server management and game publishing in this region, ending its partnership with Garena.
