League of Legends Lead Gameplay Designer Matt “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison posted a preview of LoL patch 25.12 on X.
He announced that MSI 2025 will be played on LoL patch 25.13, which is why these next two patches will be geared more towards competitive play.
He also shared that the current meta is in a healthy state, and there are no plans for significant meta shakeups. Therefore, the focus for upcoming updates will be on minor adjustments and refinements rather than large-scale changes.

State of top lane in LoL patch 25.12
Rumble and Gwen have been dominating the top lane, so the devs are making some adjustments to slightly reduce their power, wrote Riot Phroxzon.
Garen received some changes that didn’t quite hit the mark, so they’re giving him further incentives to build Attack Damage (AD). The team wants to make AD-focused fighter builds more viable, as the gap between Black Cleaver and Phantom Dancer still feels too wide, he explained.

Similarly, previous changes to Aatrox didn’t quite achieve their intended effect, wrote Riot Phroxzon. As such, they’re aiming to restore him to his power level from the last patch.
Jax has seen a bit of a dip in relevance, so the team is giving him a small buff to help him regain his footing.
Finally, Mordekaiser is currently underperforming, especially after the indirect nerf to Liandry’s Anguish. He also has a relatively shallow mastery curve, so the team is returning some power to him to make him a more competitive option.
State of jungle in LoL patch 25.12

Lee Sin has seen a decline in popularity, especially in coordinated play, when compared to other Attack Damage (AD) junglers.
The developers are looking to give him a more distinct strategic identity, particularly when compared to other AD fighters. He is unique in that his carry potential also indirectly benefits allies, and team intends to lean into that aspect of his kit.
The team is not going to buff too many AP junglers before MSI 2025, as they tend to dominate the meta. However, Nidalee is currently underperforming in both solo queue and professional play, assessed Riot Phroxzon, which is why they’re giving her a small boost.

Vi remains the most prevalent jungler in the pro meta so the devs are making changes to address this before heading into the tournament.
Finally, Rammus is getting some changes that will hopefully increase his general “pickability.” His core identity, unlike Malphite, is that of a durable champion with high mobility.
Having him be too reliant on building only armor limits his viability. He will still benefit from defensive itemization, and his taunt will remain highly effective against auto-attackers due to the self-inflicted damage. These changes aim to make his matchups less polarizing.
State of supports in LoL patch 25.12

Several changes for Bard were considered, but the game devs ultimately decided to enhance his strengths in matchups where he has the freedom to roam, such as against Braum or Rakan.
This approach was favored over simply buffing his early durability, which would allow him to withstand engagements from champions like Alistar, for example. This might have made him viable in the short term, but it’s not sustainable.
Neeko has been a top-tier support for a while now. The developers are shifting power away from her Q’s early-game harass potential and reallocating it toward her more AP-heavy builds.
Her W provides significant value through vision control and its unique tricks—a defining feature of her support playstyle—the developers opted to reduce her overall damage output rather than remove this distinctive utility.
