With the Mid-Season Invitational canceled, Riot has arranged a special one-off Mid-Season Cup to replace it.

The tournament will feature the top four teams from League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) and League of Legends Pro League (LPL):

LCK

  1. T1 (2020 Spring Split Champions)
  2. Gen.G
  3. DragonX
  4. DAMWON Gaming

LPL

  1. JD Gaming (2020 Spring Split Champions)
  2. Top Esports
  3. FunPlus Phoenix
  4. Invictus Gaming

The tournament will run from May 28 – 31 and will have a US$600,000 prize pool.

The online showdown will see the groups playing from their respective esports venues — the LoL Park in Seoul, South Korea for the LCK and the LPL Arena in Shanghai, China for the LPL. As a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 pandemic, live audiences will not be permitted in both arenas.

Riot is also planning to standardize the tournament’s ping to a range of 30-40m/s in order to “ensure the integrity of the competition,” according to an official statement by the LoL Esports Staff.

The LCK and LPL have dominated LoL esports, with the LCK boasting five World Championships and two Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) Championships, and the LPL winning the last two World Championships, as well as two MSI titles.

The 2020 Mid-Season Cup is just one of many events that Riot Games has prepared as a replacement for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI). Summoners will need to keep their eyes peeled for other LoL Esports events set for this month.
