Korean team SK Telecom T1 (SKT) emerged victorious with a 3-1 standing against European squad Splyce (SPY) at the second day of the League of Legends World Championship 2019 (Worlds) Quarterfinals.
Game one
The best-of-five (BO5) series started with SKT Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok getting a double kill in the mid-lane.
SKT Lee “Effort” Sang-ho’s Thresh has successfully hooked SPY Tore “Norskeren” Hoel Eilertsen’s Blitzcrank, which initiated a bloody clash. Partnered with Lucian’s (played by SKT Kim “Khan” Dong-ha) ultimate ability The Culling, SPY Norskeren’s Blitzcrank was left with just a chunk of HP.
Just when the Splyce support was about to escape the fight, SKT Faker’s Lissandra activated Glacial Path which dealt more than enough magic damage to finish Blitzcrank.
Things went downhill for Splyce as SKT went and pushed for the blue team’s bottom lane, straight towards destroying the Nexus by the game’s 28-minute mark.

Game two
The next game did not look any better for SPY, as all of their members went down one by one after SKT destroyed the bottom lane outer turret.
With no one left to defend Splyce’s base, SKT took the second game of the series this time two minutes faster than their first game. Four dragon buffs, 18 kills, and about 10,000 gold lead were all it took to dominate SPY for game two.
Game three
During the series break, SKT made a decision to substitute SKT Effort for SKT Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong. SKT Mata picked out Thresh, his signature champion that earned him the Worlds 2014 championship trophy as a part of Samsung White (SSW).
Despite changing their player roster, SKT was not able to snag the victory and finish the series with a clean sweep. Splyce pushed all their lanes for the game of their life. With two Baron Buffs, three dragon buffs on their side and four of SKT members down, Splyce took game three and defeated SKT.
Game four
SKT Effort was subbed back in for game four. Back with their starting roster, SKT went all out with Faker even picking his iconic mid-lane champion, Ryze.
This final match wasn’t entirely one-sided, as SPY scored four kills right after SKT killed their second Infernal Drake by the 18-minute mark.
The most crucial part of this game, however, would have to be this four-man chase from Splyce, where SPY Vizicsacsi’s Renekton, SPY Norskeren’s Thresh, SPY Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup’s Kai’Sa, and SPY Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir’s Taliyah all chased down SKT Khan’s Quinn. The rest of SKT took advantage of this poor call from the team, pushing towards SPY’s Nexus to finish the game.
The series ended with a 3-1 standing in favor of SK Telecom T1.
SKT will be facing off MSI champs G2 Esports (G2) at the Worlds 2019 semifinals on November 3 at 7p.m. GMT+8 (12p.m. CEST).
