Week 5 of the 2021 LCK Summer season featured a classic League of Legends rivalry between Gen.G and T1.
After their first season loss against DWG KIA in Week 4, league leaders Gen.G were looking to right their wrongs by taking down their rival superteam.
As for T1, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and the squad have been hovering around the middle of the leaderboard, and are aiming to break into the top three.
Though Park “Teddy” Jin-seong has been the go-to AD carry, the org fielded substitute Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong for a new bot lane approach against Gen.G.
T1 Faker stuns Gen.G with Gold Cards
Game one came down to an elaborate 4v5 Baron invasion by T1.
Faker and the boys were holding a substantial 4,000 gold lead, but Gen.G evened it out with a strong claim on the Rift’s epic monsters. Instead of waiting for the final drake to spawn, Gen.G went straight for the Baron.
Faker’s Twisted Fate used Destiny to provide vision of the Baron pit and the river. The other T1 players followed by poking down Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk’s Varus and Kim “Life” Jeong-min’s Galio, leaving the opponent bot lane out of the skirmish.
The rest of Gen.G then turned away from Baron and opted to fight the T1 quartet. Ready for the challenge, Kim “Canna” Chang-dong’s Jayce deleted Kim “Clid” Tae-min’s Lee Sin, and grabbed a double kill on Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee’s Viego with the help of Faker’s Gold Card.
With Gumayusi on Ziggs also picking up a double kill on Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong’s LeBlanc and Life’s Galio, the unscathed T1 squad teleported straight into the mid lane to claim the first Nexus of the series.

Faker’s Renekton is the best butcher of 2021 LCK Summer
Heading into the second game, Faker led T1’s frontline with Renekton. Like the first game, the squad did their best to interrupt Gen.G’s claims on the drake.
At a 17-minute river skirmish, Faker initiated with the perfect flank from the bot lane, and instantly took out Rascal’s Viego. The Renekton player continued the chase under Gen.G’s tier two bot turret, and sliced through Clid’s Volibear for the double kill.
Once T1 garnered a solid 10,000 gold lead, their poke-heavy strategies became the winning factor in every skirmish.
Gen.G tried to turn things around by engaging in a top lane fight. Even though Life’s Nautilus landed Depth Charge on Gumayusi’s Ziggs, the bot laner found safety with a quick flash over the jungle wall.
With Gen.G now out of position, Faker teleported straight into the fray and held down three of the retreating members. This bought enough time for Moon “Cuzz” Woo-chan’s Nidalee and Canna’s Jayce to clean up.
By the 28th minute, T1 took all three inhibitors down and secured the ace, closing out the series in dominating fashion.
T1 currently holds a 5-5 record in 2021 LCK Summer and will face KT Rolster on July 15 at 4 p.m. GMT+8.
