Week two of the LPL Spring split kicked off online after a long break due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak in China.

Former 2018 World Champions Invictus Gaming retained their top spot in the league, while eStar, a new team of rookies, surprised LPL fans by taking second place.

FPX was one of the teams who fell to eStar in week one, but they seemed to have bounced back, starting Kim “GimGoon Han-saem over Kim “Khan” Dong-ha this week and winning both of their matches.

Match of the week: Rogue Warriors vs Invictus Gaming

With 148 total kills across three games, this is the story of how Rogue Warriors almost took down 2018 World Champions Invictus Gaming.

First off, RW permanently banned Kalista, not wanting Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok on that champion after a stunning performance against Vici Gaming.

They also deployed roaming strategies throughout the series. With a level one invade in game one, RW forced Gao “Ning” Zhen-Ning to vertical jungle.

By splitting the map, RW could focus advantages on bot side. They sent their jungler and mid laner to tower dive bot at level three, shutting down Ding “Puff” Wang’s Aphelios early.

However, iG eventually found the teamfights they were looking for during mid to late game. Song “Rookie” Eui-jin on Orianna made every Shockwave count, giving iG a victory.

Game two was more one-sided as RW continued out-rotating iG. Without the same AoEs in their team composition, iG didn’t have the tools to win team fights.

Tied at 1-1, game three was the closest as both teams were vying for victory. A back and forth game, no team had a substantial gold lead despite RW racking up more kills.

After picking off two members, iG managed to break mid tower at 28 minutes and pulled ahead in gold. Even with Baron buff, they needed three pushes to fully crack open RW’s base.

While they managed to take down the last two Nexus turrets, their health bars were getting low and the team was forced to retreat.

Shortly after, Su “Southwind” Zhi-Lin’s Tahm Kench ate Puff’s Ezreal and voyaged into back of RW’s base, backdooring the Nexus for the win at 38 minutes.

Player of the week: Kim “Doinb” Tae-san

Doinb picked up four MVPs for each of FPX’s wins this week. On Rumble, he even racked up 100% kill participation.

His Equalizers were spot on every team fight as he dished out 37% total damage for his team.
