M6 World Championship format: Get ready for the Swiss format!
In a recent video posted on the MLBB Esports YouTube page, the casters announced exciting changes to the tournament, including the introduction of a new format — the Swiss format.
This format has already been adopted by several esports tournaments, most notably at Worlds, the League of Legends world championship.
In this structure, teams with the same score face each other, aiming to win three matches to qualify for the playoffs, while losing three matches leads to elimination.
The tournament consists of five rounds, starting with random pairings in the first round. Early matches are best-of-one, but as teams progress, later rounds transition to best-of-three.
Teams with a 2-0 or 2-1 record compete in best-of-three matches for a chance to advance, while those with 0-2 or 1-2 records face elimination in best-of-three games.
By the fifth and last round, teams with a 2-2 record compete in best-of-three matches to determine their fate regarding playoff advancement.
This format ensures fairer matchups by pairing teams with similar records, creating a more competitive environment without immediate elimination after a loss.
Additionally, it increases participation by providing teams with more opportunities to play and helps accurately rank the strongest competitors based on overall performance.
The M6 World Championship starts on November 21, 2024.
