Making the leap from obscurity to being featured in Time Magazine might be almost impossible but Shanghai Dragons’ very own Kim “Geguri” Se-yeon has done so.

Geguri was listed as one of Time’s Next Generation Leaders for 2019, alongside YouTuber CarryMinati (Ajey Nagar), Spanish singer Rosalia, and Brazilian journalist David Miranda.

In the list, the Overwatch League (OWL) player was described as “the female gamer taking the male-dominated world of esports by storm”. She is currently the only professional female player out of 193 registered players in the Overwatch League.

Time’s piece on Geguri highlighted her difficulty in entering the esports scene, mostly centering around cheating accusations such as using an aimbot during matches and highlighted her resiliency in handling them.

“I was able to get through this whole fiasco with the help and support of my teammates at the time,” said Geguri to Time.

Before becoming a part of the Overwatch League, Geguri was known as a skilled Zarya player back in her native South Korea. In February 2018, she made the headlines as the first female player to join the OWL.
