The Grand Finals of Season 2 of the Overwatch League have been revealed to be on September 29 this year after the date was leaked in a promotion by T-Mobile.
T-Mobile, one of the Overwatch League’s major sponsors, have been offering fans a free trip to the finals as part of their T-Mobile Tuesday’s Grand Finals sweepstakes. While the league itself has not yet announced the exact dates for the finals, their sponsor has now already done so, albeit unwittingly.
The official page for T-Mobile’s main promotional material does not explicitly state when the finals will take place, but a closer look at the fine print for the grand prize in the sweepstakes revealed that the event will take place on September 29.
In full, the winners will receive a three-day, two-night trip from September 28 to 30 to the Overwatch League Grand Finals for the winner and one guest.
It is speculated that the finals will take place somewhere in North America. Season 1’s Grand Finals were held in the Barclays Center in New York City back in July 27 and 28, 2018 — which was significantly earlier in the calendar year compared to the dates revealed in the T-Mobile leak.
The London Spitfire won the Grand Finals of the Overwatch League’s inaugural season over the Philadelphia Fusion, taking home the grand prize of $1 million.
In light of the leak, fans of the league can expect an official confirmation soon enough. Until then, they can watch the ongoing regular season of the Overwatch League to see who will compete for the championship in the Grand Finals for Season 2.
